This was a fun little experiment making a sort of stop-motion animation entirely in Zbrush. Each frame of the animation is a separate subtool, and you can use solo mode and the up/down cursor keys to flip between 'frames' as you sculpt. I then used the FBX exporter to get the all the models in to 3dsmax with their polypaint intact as vertex colours. I made a little maxscript to dynamically hide/unhide each model so you can scrub the time line, and finally rendered with v-ray.
For those who don't recognise this is based on a short scene in the Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away.
Final Render from 3dsmax with Vray.
Zbrush process: Each frame is a separate subtool, use solo mode and the up/down cursor keys to cycle through 'frames'
Each model exported into 3ds max with the polypaint as vertex colours. I made a script to dynamically show/hide the models in the timeline.
